Who Is Rick Simpson?

Rick Simpson is an engineer from Canada and the creator of the world’s most acclaimed medical cannabis protocol, known simply as the Rick Simpson Oil or RSO. In 2003, ‘the godfather of cannabis oil’, discovered three unusual bumps on his nose, cheek, and chest, which were later diagnosed as basal cell carcinoma, a non-melanoma form of skin cancer.

At the time, Simpson recalled a radio report about a 1975 study that found that medical cannabis had reduced cancerous lung tumours in mice and it was this study that inspired him to apply oil with very high levels of THC to the cancerous spots. After a few days, the basal cell carcinoma disappeared and never returned.

Simpson was already familiar with the healing powers of medical cannabis, which he had been using to treat post-concussion syndrome following a severe head injury. Not only did medical cannabis improve his cognitive processes but it also balanced his weight, blood pressure and healed arthritis in his knees.

What Is Rick Simpson Oil/ RSO?

Rick Simpson Oil (RSO) is the most concentrated cannabis oil a person can consume and requires ingesting 60 grams of RSO over 90 days. This whole plant extract oil contains a very high percentage of THC (around 60 to 90 percent) and, depending on the strain of cannabis used for the extract, very little CBD. Along with THC and CBD, RSO also contains healthy fatty acids, terpenes, and the minor cannabinoids that work in symbiosis as a potent medicine. This theory that combinations of cannabinoids working in unison have a greater effect than the sum of their individual cannabinoids is known as the Entourage Effect.

What Are The Potential Benefits Of Rick Simpon Oil (RSO)?

RSO cannabis oil is perhaps most used as an alternative to cancer treatments. When our endocannabinoid system becomes unbalanced, we experience health problems like stress, insomnia, illness and disease, including cancer. Ingesting medical cannabis allows the plant’s cannabinoids to mimic the natural compounds in our body and bind to our CB1 and CB2 cannabinoid receptors, helping the body function properly again.

Cannabis oil has also been used to treat a variety of other health issues including asthma, multiple sclerosis, anxiety, depression, inflammation, and a variety of other conditions. The reason people feel high when using RSO cannabis oil is that THC activates the CB1 receptor within the brain, providing a feeling of euphoria, which could be seen as a benefit or not.

What Is The Difference Between RSO And CBD Oil?

Although both oils are derived from the cannabis plant, there are different classifications of the plant. CBD oil is generally derived from hemp, which contains less than 0.3% THC and is non-psychoactive. The RSO is derived from the Indica or Sativa strains, which are very psychoactive and contain 35% or more THC.

Although CBD is not considered as important as THC for anti-cancer activity, CBD has been shown to reduce tumour growth and progression in cancers as diverse as breast, lung, and colon cancer. Research into CBD continues to develop and an October 2020 review from a team of researchers in Bulgaria describes the effects of CBD on different cancer cells and how CBD works synergistically with conventional cancer treatments.

What Is The History Of RSO?

After Simpson cured his own skin cancer, he originally started sharing his RSO for free with people who also suffered from skin conditions, including skin cancer, psoriasis, and third-degree burns. But soon he was sharing it with people who came to him with tumours inside the body and he found he had the same success. He has said: “I consider myself just one of many who have found a way to cure cancer and I do not claim that it was me who found the cure. Still, it does appear that I am the first to supply this medication to vast numbers of patients to treat their cancers and other conditions in a more effective and sensible way.”

In 2008, a documentary called Run From The Cure (see video below) was made by Rick Simpson and filmmaker Christian Laurette depicting Simpson’s journey with medical cannabis, the individuals it’s treated – including a man who was given two months to live but became cancer-free following the RSO protocol – and the difficulties Simpson has encountered with the Canadian legal system in order to get medical cannabis to the people who need it.

Simpson has spoken frequently over the years about the damaging side-effects of many traditional pharmaceutical treatments, including his own suicidal feelings created by the medications prescribed to him for his original head injury, and the need for global governments to repeal anti-cannabis laws. He says that access to medical cannabis is a natural right and that it is ‘the greatest medicine on the planet’.

What Is The RSO Protocol?

The protocol involves consuming 60 grams of RSO over 90 days. This is an exceptionally large amount of cannabis oil so it’s best to increase the dose gradually to avoid adverse effects. It usually takes the average person about 90 days to ingest the full 60-gram treatment.

• Week one: Start with three doses, around the size of half a grain of rice, per day. Take them under your tongue and hold them for 60 seconds before swallowing. Take these doses every morning, midday, and around one hour before bed.

• Week two-five: Double your dose every four days, maintaining the three doses per day schedule. By now you should have developed your tolerance.

• Week five-twelve: Now you want to start consuming one gram per day, split across three doses until the entire 60 grams of oil is consumed or you complete your 90-day plan.

• Week twelve onwards: Seduce to a maintenance dose, which is one-two grams per month, usually taken as one-two drop before bedtime.

What Are The Potential Side-Effects?

Patients starting an RSO protocol should plan for side effects, which tend to be greater during the first three to four weeks. The most common side effect is sleepiness and sedation, with sleep quality being an important aspect of the healing process. Once tolerance is built, most patients report few to no negative side effects.

High doses of THC can also cause increased heart rate, anxiety, dizziness, nausea, and difficulty with concentration. A few questionable studies show that THC may be linked to paranoia, low blood pressure, depression, issues with sleeping or irritability, and even impaired memory or bodily functions. A 2007 study claimed in a clinical trial that THC did not have any significant effect on ongoing and paroxysmal pain, allodynia, quality of life, anxiety and depression scores, and functional impact of pain. However, there is more recent research that suggests otherwise and is not directly, or more disturbingly indirectly, funded by the pharmaceutical industry.

It is also important to watch this documentary. This is Rick’s first documentary, released in 2008 on the internet. This film documentary woke up the world regarding the curing of cancer, among other conditions, with Cannabis THC oil.
