In 2014 I was told that I had a recurrence of pancreatic cancer. The primary tumour had metastasised to my liver and I was handed a death sentence. Imagine my surprise when an incredibly generous young woman, a princess, offered to be my benefactor and pay for my cancer treatment at a private oncology clinic in Germany. My husband Steve and I started researching what we could do to compliment the treatments at the clinic and one thing kept coming up… medical cannabis. In 2014 there was so much conflicting information on the internet about CBD & THC that we were not sure if the oil would have a detrimental affect on the cancer treatments that I was having in Germany.
After one year and 500,000 euros worth of cutting edge treatments including Immune therapy, Immune support and other conventional medicine, the cancer had progressed. Meantime many of my fellow patients had died. It was a very dark time. In early 2015, a fellow patient recommended an underground Dutch company that made laboratory tested, organic, whole plant Cannabis oil. I started taking THC in huge quantities, as much as 1800 mg a day…stoned immaculate! My oncologist was supportive of me taking the oil in conjunction with all the other treatments. What astounded him was how well my body tolerated all of the conventional cancer medicines, better than any other patient he’d had.
In March 2016 I achieved a stable result and was put on observation for 12 months during which time my only medicine was THC & CBD. My next PET-CT scan in March 2017, showed further regression of the pancreatic tumours and, the disappearance of most of the tumours in my liver. This overall reduction put me solidly into partial remission! Having achieved such a fantastic result and having met so many fellow patients who had died (mostly through cancer treatments rather than the disease itself) we felt compelled to spread the word of everything that we had learnt about medical cannabis. So in 2017 we opened the first dedicated medical cannabis centre in Spain, offering qualified support, advice and guidance to patients with ailments ranging from minor to life threatening.
We now have our own brand of CBD products called The Healing Connection. What we have learnt at the coalface of medical cannabis is nothing short of remarkable. I look forward to sharing our discoveries with you.

There is a growing body of research that suggests CBD helps with anxiety. Researchers think this is because CBD acts on receptors in the brain called 5-HT receptors, otherwise known as serotonin receptors. Serotonin is a neurotransmitter that is responsible for many biological processes including learning and memory, appetite regulation, and sleep. You have probably heard of serotonin as it relates to depression, as most antidepressants and some anti-anxiety drugs act on neurons responsible for serotonin release.
A study conducted in 2018 by scientists at McGill University found that administering 5 mg/kg of CBD to rats for 7 days decreased anxiety-like behavior. They discovered this by measuring the firing rate of 5-HT neurons in an area of the brain called the dorsal raphe nucleus (measuring the firing rate can tell you how active those neurons are). This brain area provides a majority of serotonin transmission to other regions of the brain like the frontal cortex. Essentially, the study showed that repeated CBD administration seemed to increase the firing rate of these neurons, which led to a decrease in anxiety when these rats were behaviorally tested. This mechanism could explain CBD’s anti-anxiety and anti-depressant-like effects.
Other research focuses on CBD’s action at TRPV1 receptors. TRPV1 are proteins present in certain parts of the brain and peripheral nervous system responsible for regulating stress and pain modulation (it is also known as the capsaicin receptor, which is in charge of spicy sensations!). Scientists found TRPV1 receptors and cannabinoid receptors in the dorsal periaqueductal grey of rats, a region that plays a part in anxiety and panic responses. Because cannabinoid receptor activation in this region is anxiolytic (anxiety-reducing) and TRPV1 activation is anxiogenic (anxiety-inducing), some researchers speculate that anxiety can come about from an imbalance or dysregulation of CB1 and TRPV1 signaling in this area. This speaks to the presence of CBD’s unique dose-response curve, as CBD could potentially activate TRPV1 (thus increasing anxiety) in high doses.
Mice with their TRPV1 gene knocked out experience lessened anxiety; thus, some scientists predict that the use of both CBD and a drug that would block TRPV1 could be a new line of research for exploring CBD as an anxiety treatment.
CBD has a tendency to follow what scientists called an inverted, U-shaped dose-response curve. This means, if you imagine an upside-down U on a graph, CBD is effective for most conditions at those median doses (aside from epilepsy, which requires a higher dose). Researchers in Brazil simulated a public speaking task for human subjects to test this. They dosed humans with an inactive control drug, a benzodiazepine, and a variety of CBD doses (100 mg, 300 mg, and 900 mg). They found that only the 300 mg dose of CBD had anxiolytic effects on the subjects during their public speaking task.

Many factors can affect how CBD works or how you may feel after taking it; clean cannabidiol is something pro-cannabis legislators are still trying to regulate, and somethings scientists are continuing to examine. Smoking CBD or consuming it via a tincture provides quicker and a more potent relief compared to taking it orally because it reaches your bloodstream faster. Specialists suggest starting at a low dose when starting to experiment, and slowly increase the dose until you’re comfortable or to match your growing tolerance.
The most common side effects reported from cannabidiol are fatigue, weight gain, and nausea. Side effects also depend on the factors listed previously, i.e. your typical drug-taking habits, other medications that could interact with the CBD, etc. Everyone’s body and brain tends to process drugs a little bit differently, which is largely why results can vary.
Possible interactions between CBD and other drugs may exist because CBD is metabolized by a class of enzymes in the liver called CYP450 enzymes. These are responsible for breaking down all drugs in the body. However, many other drugs follow this same metabolism pathway, including some anti-epileptic medications, benzodiazepines, and beta-blockers. If both drugs are “competing” for the same receptors, therefore, it will be harder for them to be broken down and can lead to more of the drug in your bloodstream.
Research shows CBD can render CYP450 enzymes inactive, which further informs necessary trepidation when combining drugs.
As with any drug, take precautions before you begin dosing. Studies show CBD is nonaddictive, but that does not mean it can’t bew psychoactive. We will learn more as restrictions continue to be lifted — the 2018 farm bill, which federally legalized industrial hemp, was a start — but, for now, we can only be informed by what we know today. And today’s research shows that CBD can be helpful for anxiety with the correct dose and after considering potential side effects and interactions with other pharmaceuticals.

Buckminsterfullerene: The Magic Carbon Molecule That Precedes Life On Earth!
Carbon-60, also known as C60, buckminsterfullerene, fullerene-60 or buckyball, is likely to be the most amazing chemistry discovery of the late 20th century.
This carbon molecule is theorized to have a practical use in everything, including rocket fuel, electronics and in creating super strong materials! Yet, arguably the most profound applications have been in the field of health.
Carbon-60 is a very complicated subject and there is a lot of public confusion about it. Carbon-60 is a member of the carbon family, alongside diamond and graphite, that was only discovered recently in 1985.
Its official name, Buckminsterfullerene, was an ode to Buckminster Fuller, a mathematician who designed geodesic dome structures similar to this compound.
Essentially a carbon-60 molecule is comprised of 60 carbon atoms which are arranged in a unique shape that can be thought of as a ‘carbon cage’. This shape resembles that of a soccer ball, comprising of 20 hexagons and 12 pentagons. At the vertex of each shape is one carbon atom, with a double bond forming the edges. Another name for this unique structure is a truncated icosahedron.
12 Possible Health Benefits of Carbon 60
Most of the research carried out on C60 is based on rat models. However, there is an overwhelming amount of anecdotal evidence that supports these findings in humans too, given that the source of carbon-60 is pure or not combined with another dangerous compound.
1 May Increase Longevity
The Paris or Baati study is likely the most famous experiment performed using carbon-60. The findings reveal that this molecule is not only non-toxic but increases the lifespan of rats by 90%!
The results may partially be explained by other findings that show Carbon-60 as having a high affinity for both cellular and mitochondrial membranes. 4 It appears to help protect and support both of these structures, which are integral to the lifespan of our cells and ultimately us.
There are several studies proving that water-soluble C60 prevents mitochondrial dysfunction, which promotes longevity, as well as optimal health and increased energy levels.
Further research is required before we can confirm it works the same way in humans, however Baati’s group findings and other similar data paves the way for further investigation into carbon-60’s anti-aging potential. These research findings also fall in line with many anecdotal reports of people who have used pure extracts of C60, stating that it makes them feel younger and more energetic.
2 Scavenges Free Radicals
Ever since the first experiments were conducted on buckyballs, it was concluded that this molecule acts as a free radical sponge, mopping up any that it encounters. Amazingly, scientific data has revealed that carbon-60 has an antioxidant capacity several hundred times higher than other antioxidants!
What makes fullerene 60 even more amazing is its strong cage-like structure. The free radicals it mops up don’t affect its shape or function, allowing for it to continuously deal with free radicals until it leaves the system (which has been shown in the Baati study to be 97 hours from the bloodstream of rats).
Unlike other antioxidants, which can bind to free radicals molecule-for-molecule, carbon-60 can accumulate dozens of them before it can no longer do so. For example, it has been reported that C60 can hold up to 34 methyl radicals at one time!
This combined with its ability to by-pass cellular membranes, including the blood-brain-barrier, as well as its affinity for DNA, mitochondria and cellular membranes, place C60 within a league of its own. Moreover, once the free radicals have bound to it, they are 100% neutralized and do not interact with C60 or anything else along the way.
Another research paper showed that a specific malonic acid form of C60 mimicked the action of SOD, facilitating the removal of superoxide, a harmful by-product produced by cells. This shows that scavenging free radicals is not Carbon-60’s only means of acting as an antioxidant, but that it is capable of neutralizing pollutants via chemical reduction reactions too.
While the data appears to be promising, most of this research is still experimental and has only been conducted in test-tubes or on rats. More trials are required before we can verify the same effects in humans.
